Y&L analysts were brought in to eliminate data integration failures. An in-depth analysis of system logs was conducted, the server and network infrastructure was reviewed and validated, the integration process and code was reviewed, and data tables were analyzed for improvement.
The team incorporated various changes including table indexing and partitioning (which provided the most improvement) and queries were re-written to optimize load performance. Additionally, several automatic and dynamic maintenance plans were implemented.
Client had an immoveable deadline to retire their legacy data warehouse and migrate 15,000 existing Cognos reports to a new Oracle data warehouse. Combining usage reports and interviewing report users reduced reports to 2,000. Decomposing reports down to their root elements was conducted, and a matrix of all base elements was produced.
Elements were further rationalized to their data warehouse location. As reports were created in the new environment, they were validated against legacy reports for accuracy. The result was a huge reduction in reports, the migration of only actively used reports, and the retirement of the legacy data warehouse.

Network Server Assessment
Our client wanted to determine active vs. dormant databases, their overall performance and utilization, and any consolidation/decommissioning opportunities. Our analysts reviewed the entire environment using network listeners for a high-level preliminary analysis before diving into details of each database instance.
The following attributes were defined for output and visualization in Tableau: versions, configurations, software available per server, named SQL instances, types of instances, number of databases per, applications, compatibility levels, creation dates, size, long-running queries and indices.

Modernizing Data Management
Client’s AS400 system didn’t regulate data consistency or provide a user-friendly experience. In working closely with the executive team an end-to-end data solution was agreed upon; Microsoft stack on the backend with Qlik Sense empowering users on the frontend.
A SQL Server Database environment was implemented to ingest AS400 data. With the correct architecture, rules, and cleansing checks, this implementation served as the foundation for trusted data and a backend architecture for frontend tools.
Six enterprise applications were built consisting of 12 dashboards providing insight, standardized KPIs, drillable visualizations, and user-friendly self-service tools. A series of training guides, videos, data dictionaries, feedback loops, and a custom web landing page were also implemented.
Tools Used: AS400, SQL Server, SQL Integration Services, Qlik Sense
