Nancy Valdes is a Y&L IT Recruiter in San Antonio. Helping others has been a personal commitment she has shared with her father from a very young age. Every year she and her father collected new toys to give-away the day after Christmas in Zaragoza, Coahuila MX. They would invite children from low income families to a big party to have lunch, play games, win prizes and received a toy.
As an adult, Nancy became involved with Walk to Defeat ALS back in 2014 during the socially popularized Ice Bucket Challenge. However, Nancy added her own unique spin to the event and instead of dumping ice water on top of her head she walked through San Antonio’s downtown and gave bottled water with pizza to the homeless. She collected donations based upon the number of people she personally met on the streets. After receiving hugs and blessings from the homeless she decided to get more directly involved helping them out.
Nancy found out about The Street Store online. For her birthday she requested friends and family to donate used clothing and help make the first Street Store in San Antonio a success. She identified a local church to host the event and started gathering donated clothes from all over San Antonio. It was a great success and even a year later friends and family are still donating clothes. This year Nancy is directing her second annual Street Store in San Antonio and Y&L Consulting is proud being one of her sponsors.
Nancy also volunteers at “Church Under the Bridge” to feed the homeless. She also collects shoes for Dando Amor, an organization that provides shoes for children in Africa, Ecuador and Haiti. Nancy is always trying to find new ways to get more involved in the plight of the less fortunate. Nancy is a credit to the Y&L family.
