QA Testing Case Study

Y&L was tasked with assisting a large, San Antonio-based manufacturing company in creation of QA department. The majority of our assignment surrounded defining the testing process, establishing the test environment and recommending automated tools.

During a three month engagement Y&L:
  • Reviewed existing requirement process.
  • Reviewed applications to determine testing strategy.
  • Created checklists for testers.
  • Documented processes and procedures for testers to follow.
  • Designed process maps.
  • Defined operating environment.
  • Defined issue escalation and resolution process.
  • Defined testing deliverables into UAT group.
  • Developed project status tracking and management.
  • Provided training to testers on requirements gathering, risk analysis, and regression testing.

Based upon our work with the client, the following documents and processes were developed:
  • QA Charter and Scope.
  • Testing for regular release.
  • Regression testing for regular release.
  • IT Request/Change request testing estimate.
  • Incorporating a change request.
  • UAT and QA formal processes.
  • Out-of-cycle releases.
  • Testing documentation templates.

The key deliverables from Y&L were in the provision of a structure and process for a formal QA team and improving overall communication between IT, business owners and QA.
